Graham: We Need to See True Cost for Democrats’ Reckless Taxing and Spending Bill

WASHINGTON – Senate Budget Committee Ranking Member Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made this statement after Senator Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) expressed concerns over House Democrats trying to vote on their Reckless Taxing and Spending bill without knowing the true cost of the bill.

“To my House Democratic colleagues: I hope you understand that without a CBO score a reconciliation bill will not move forward in the Senate.

“Reconciliation rules exist for a very good reason. They give lawmakers and the public an opportunity to analyze the bill in terms of expenses today and for future generations. I believe this is what Senator Manchin said today.

“As Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, I will assure you that I will do everything in my power to make sure that all the rules regarding this privileged process are abided by in the Senate, particularly the CBO scoring requirement.

“We need full and proper scoring and validation, including an analysis of the taxes in the legislation, and full transparency when it comes to the proposal’s shell games and budget gimmicks.”
