CBO Analysis Shows House-Passed Reconciliation Bill Adds $2.4 Trillion to the 10-year Deficit
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, released the below statement following new analysis from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) showing that the House-passed reconciliation bill would cost $2.4 trillion over the next 10 years.
“Congressional Republicans will let nothing stand in the way of enacting their families lose, billionaires win agenda. This ‘Big, Beautiful Betrayal’ will leave millions without health care and millions of children will go hungry – all to fund tax giveaways for the wealthiest Americans,” said Ranking Member Jeff Merkley. “In addition, Republicans are going to add massive amounts to our deficit, to the tune of $2.4 trillion over the next 10 years. This is not responsible governing and Republicans who claim to care about fiscal responsibility should be outraged. This is the Great Betrayal of working families across the country.”
