Sessions Announces Opposition To Controversial Budget Nominee

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement today in opposition to the nomination of Heather Higginbottom to be Deputy Director at the Office of Management and Budget:

“Ms. Higginbottom has no real budget experience. She would be the least qualified nominee to hold this post in decades. During her hearing she struggled to defend the administration’s indefensible claim that the president’s debt-doubling budget would not add to the debt. President Obama’s selection of this weak candidate, a former campaign staffer, offers further proof that he is not committed to confronting our debt. I am disappointed he did not select someone of stature at a time when the nation faces the biggest fiscal crisis in its history. I must oppose this nomination.”
