Sessions: By Refusing To Offer Budget Plan, Senate Majority Endorses Nation’s Current Dangerous Financial Direction

“The party running the Senate has neither written nor offered a budget plan for our nation’s financial future… The budget votes expected this week will once again bring into crystal focus that the party running the Senate is refusing to meet its financial obligations… Through its continued unwillingness to advance a sound plan for the future, the Senate majority is endorsing the unsustainable course we are on now.”

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee, issued the following statement today about the budget votes expected to occur tomorrow. For the third straight year, the majority party will not offer not offer a budget plan for America:

“It appears the Democrat-led Senate will soon consider several different budget resolutions offered by members of its Republican minority, along with the proposal that passed the GOP-led House. Also under consideration is the President’s budget, which increases debt by $11 trillion and was rejected unanimously by House Democrats.

But the party running the Senate has neither written nor offered a budget plan for our nation’s financial future, preferring instead to call for higher taxes to fund endless government growth and waste. The budget votes expected this week will once again bring into crystal focus that the party running the Senate is refusing to meet its financial obligations and responsibly plan for the economic future of the United States.

For three consecutive years now, the Senate majority has refused to bring a budget of their own to the floor or to even put forward the President’s in its place. For two consecutive years, they’ve cancelled the legally required committee meetings to work on a budget.

Through its continued unwillingness to advance a sound plan for the future, the Senate majority is endorsing the unsustainable course we are on now. Seldom has the nation seen such a dramatic abandonment of leadership at a time of national crisis.”
