Chairman Patty Murray and the Senate Budget Committee held a hearing on Opportunity, Mobility, and Inequality in Today’s Economy. Majority witnesses were Joseph Stiglitz, University Professor of Economics at Columbia University, and Raj Chetty, William Henry Bloomberg Professor of Economics at Harvard University.

Chairman Murray discussed the lack of economic mobility and rise of economic inequality in the United States and ways to help workers and struggling families, including raising the minimum wage, updating the tax code, and addressing not just the budget deficit, but other deficits like infrastructure and education.
